Municipal Lot at Ludlow and Broome Closing for ‘Soil Samples’ Ahead of Essex Crossing Development

The Department of Transportation is closing the Broome Street Municipal parking lot on August 5, according to the litany of orange signs posted onsite. A representative from the city agency tells us that soil sampling must be conducted, as this parcel is presently earmarked for a shiny new Essex Crossing facility. The Davey Drill will return.
As previously reported, the parking lot will sprout the residential development that includes the twenty-year-old Andy Warhol Museum annex.
The mandatory closure is only for one day, so it won’t affect the twentieth and final season of “Shakespeare in the Parking Lot” at this local. Next summer is another story, though…
Ground break on the project could begin as early as next spring.
