Where so many other boutiques have failed – most recently, Feltraiger – another is rolling the dice at 158 Allen Street. And a familiar face, at that.

Alphabet City refugee Tokyo Rebel finally found a new permanent home. The five-year-old unique boutique opened its latest flagship store at 158 Allen on Tuesday afternoon. The event was certainly a spectacle, as the following photo can attest.

Tokyo Rebel sells popular “underground Japanese street fashion.” As its mission statement declares:

This is the real thing – NOT a western or Asian interpretation! We carry real brands from Japan including Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, Alice and the Pirates, Algonquins, Sex Pot Revenge, Innocent World, Super Lovers, Victorian maiden, Putumayo, Atelier-Pierrot, Hellcat Punks and Maxicimam. We’re also proud to carry one local brand, Morrigan New York. We were the FIRST store in the entire USA to carry many of these brands. Accept no imitations!

Tokyo Rebel first opened at 170 Avenue B in 2009, and ceased the brick-and-mortar operation three years later.
