Matthew Suchomski’s restuarant, Todd’s Mill, shuttered in early June after two years at 162 Orchard Street. The business was quickly put up for sale, despite a Twitter promise to reopen after fixing some alleged “plumbing issues” onsite. Security gates remain shuttered and the branding is still dangling from the facade.
But that’ll probably change pretty soon.
Application materials on file with Community Board 3 reveal that a new suitor hopes to open a restaurant here. Veterans of the beloved Queens Kickshaw in Astoria (Ben Sandler, Jennifer Lim) are proposing a new vegetarian restaurant at 162 Orchard that includes “fare influenced by cuisines of local/international cider-growing regions.” In fact, their corporate entity, Wassail LLC, is a nod to the cider-based tradition of ushering in a fruitful apple harvest.
For this endeavor, Sandler and Lim seek a full liquor license. The eatery would boast 23 tables with 65 seats.
