Two tragedies of August 2014 – Robin Williams and Kim’s Video.
Last night, the last iteration of the once-dominant Kim’s Video & Music empire shuttered for good. The asking rent on the store – located at 124 First Avenue – was jacked to $16,500. With this imminent closure in mind, as well as the stunning loss of Robin Williams last week, this photo seemed apropos.
Boogie reader Dan L. shared the image, a group shot with Robin Williams at the St. Mark’s “Upground” location of Kim’s in 2001. This flagship outpost would last another eight years before its demise in 2009. Apparently Robin Williams didn’t purchase anything that day due to fan engagement – “Sadly someone blew up his spot before he could make a purchase, I believe.”
