Fans of imported eats have been flocking to Shi Eurasia on Orchard Street for the three-plus years of its existence. Its shelves are perenially stocked with bounty from Asian and European countries, including snack foods, pastries, noodles, coffee, tea, etc.
But Shi is now reportedly on the move, thanks to an exorbitant rent hike. According to a reader who spoke with the proprietor, the landlord of this commercial shoebox is upping the monthly rent to $9,000.
Public record shows that the folks behind longtime apparel store Giselle own the building.
We are also told that Shi is planning to move around the corner onto Allen Street, but the location is still unknown.
143 Orchard was formerly home to a shoe and handbag operation called Sole.
