EMM Group Closes The General on the Bowery; This Time It’s For Real

It finally happened. The General closed to the public earlier this week. This time it’s for real. A call to the EMM Group hotline reveals that the bait-and-switch restaurant at 199 Bowery is no longer taking reservations, and will remain open for private events only.
A source also brings word that “a manager cleaning out her stuff” mentioned that Finale isn’t too far behind. Yet this piece of intel was not confirmed by EMM Group.
Rumors of its closure have been bubbling since the summertime, but never quite held. Nevertheless, the writing was on the wall. The General even stooped to deal sites like Groupon and TravelZoo to net business.
As we first reported, Duane Reade/Walgreens is largely believed to be the replacement tenant at 199 Bowery. Again, it still remains unclear whether Finale is part of these plans.
