A deluge of humanity descended upon Orchard Street yesterday afternoon for the annual Pickle Day festivities. Easily thousands flooded the neighborhood to partake of the pickles and brine.
As with other DayLife Sundays, the Lower East Side BID rolled out the puscharts and unrolled the AstroTurf carpeting. Child prodigy DJ Kai Song was on the turntables, grandmas rapped in regalia, and the masses queued for free samples.
This year’s pickle outing was the second such iteration on Orchard Street between East Houston and Delancey since Hurricane Sandy forced cancelation back in 2012. The event has been happening in some form or another since 2001.
