Misin Shin just closed after 3 years in business

Upper Orchard Street – within the confines of Hell Square – continues to take a beating. A decade of constant construction has pounded the area into submission. Retail barely survives, rowdy nightlife thrives. Now there are three more storefront vacancies to report today. Each carves a notch in the column of Lower East Side fashion flight.

Jewelry boutique B. Tiff held down business at 177 Orchard for years before its demise last month. While the other likeminded businesses around it succumbed to the upward real estate pressure, this store persisted. In the end, though, like the multitude of victims before it, the endless construction on the block probably contributed.

The Misin Shin hair salon at 122 Orchard opened three years ago, and was fairly popular from the get-go. It was a self-described “relaxed salon” with the expected fashionista pricing; Yelpers gave an average 4 stars. That rating is now buried with the tombstone signage of Misrahi Realty.

Reed Annex now for lease

Lastly, it appears that Reed Space ditched its longtime sidecar outpost. This sister store – dubbed the Reed Annex – offered a lower priced alternative to its trendier older sister. Here there were perpetual sales and random events.
