The Little Italy Street Art Project is back with another timely statement outside its namesake neighborhood. And again on the Lower East Side. The grassroots arts group helped commission a new piece to commemorate those fallen young men in the news of late. It’s a memorial mural spray-painted by Cassius Fouler in a fitting location – headstone dealer Silver Monuments on Stanton Street.
The names of Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and graffiti writer Israel “Reefa” Hernandez are all scrawled on the grate. Each died as a result of violent altercations with police in various cities. Oakland, New York City, Ferguson, and Miami respectively.
