Delicate Raymond Jewelry Departs Orchard Street; New Locations in Brooklyn and Greenwich Village

Coming off a second anniversary in the neighborhood and tenth as a brand, Delicate Raymond Jewelry is no longer slinging fashion at 73 Orchard Street. Done with the Lower East Side. Local designer Michelle Zimmerman closed her shop just after Christmas. The boutique spent trying two-year period pinballing around Orchard Street, thanks in part to greedy landlords.
Lack of money-dropping foot traffic contributed to the demise. “Not many people shop on Orchard like they used to,” Zimmerman tells us. “It’s all galleries now it seems, and it’s just not a shopping district anymore.” True that.
Delicate Raymond now maintains a presence in the Mini Mall on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, while a second shop on Bleecker Street will soon follow. She says business there is much better.
This block of Orchard Street is definitely a tough sell. We’ve heard as much from shopkeepers who remain. Tourists aplenty, yes; those willing to shell out cash, not so much. Most are part of the Tenement Museum tour anyway, which typically ends up at the gift shop.
