DOH Inspection Forces Prince Street Cafe Out of Business

Prince Street Cafe – located between Mott and Elizabeth – is now kaput. The Department of Health paid a visit two weeks ago and ultimately dropped the hammer on the seven-year-old establishment. Out of commission; the store itself is already drawn and quartered, awaiting the next occupant.
The Thursday inspection resulted in 77 violation points for infractions like improper refrigeration, lack of Food Protection Certificate, and evidence of live rats and roaches in the kitchen/dining areas. Restaurant closure followed shortly thereafter.
Chef-owner Gary Volkov – a veteran of One If by Land, Two If by Sea – opened Prince Street Cafe shortly after Labor Day in 2007. It had a decent run considering the cutthroat climate dominated by the constant “what’s-next” foodie agenda.
