Chased from Hell Square last fall, Lindsey Thornburg is almost ready to unveil her new boutique HQ down on the fringes of Chinatown. Her eponymous women’s shop relocated to 21 Orchard Street, and is all but ready to reopen. Word on the street is that the store will launch on Thursday (February 5).
The new home came at the expense of Lower East Side regular DCKT Contemporary Gallery, which occupied various stores over the years. It closed for good last November.
As a refresher, Thornburg’s move from 114 Stanton was precipitated by the dual threat of building sale and increased rent. Chun Yuk Lee, a dentist on Grand Street – scooped up the property in October for $4.3 million under the corporate entity 114 Stanton LLC. The same man owns the adjacent tenement at #112 and is planning to open a Latin restaurant called Nuevo. Plywood is already a presence.
