Despite the spike in temperatures this week, summer couldn’t be further away. Nevertheless, the Eldridge Street Synagogue isn’t wasting time advertising the annual Egg Rolls & Egg Creams Festival held at its doorstep. The official date was dropped yesterday – Sunday, June 7, 12pm – 4pm.
This year’s event – the 16th go-round – will feature the usual multicultural melting pot of entertainment. But with a spicy twist; a cultural expansion, as it were. Event organizers decided to include another ingredient to the stew – empanadas.
This year, our signature festival celebrating Jewish and Chinese culture will expand to also feature the food, music and folk arts of the Puerto Rican community of our neighborhood. Enjoy Chinese opera, klezmer and salsa and plena music; Yiddish, Mandarin and Spanish lessons; Hebrew and Chinese scribal art, Puerto Rican mask making, mah jongg and, of course, egg rolls, egg creams and empanadas – all kosher!
