The northern end of Elizabeth Street is quickly becoming a destination for boutique-sized outposts of mid-level corporate brands. Seriously. In the last couple years, we’ve seen the arrival of Wolverine Company Store, Schott, L’Agent (sub-label of Agent Provocateur), and TOMS Shoes. This quick succession of consumerism ultimately comes at the expense of high rents and the inability for the smaller trendy shops to remain for extended runs.

Next to join the party on Elizabeth Street is the popular Canadian apparel company Roots. With build-out having just begun, teaser signage now sits in the windows of #228. This outpost is the first brick-and-mortar representation for the brand in Manhattan.

Roots was founded in 1973 by Don Green and Michael Budman, and is considered “Canada’s leading lifestyle brand and manufacturer of handcrafted genuine leather goods.”
