Essex Crossing is Fed Up with Drivers Illegally Parking in the Closed Parking Lot on Site 1

It’s Essex Crossing versus drivers who insist the municipal parking lot situated on SPURA Site 1 is a necessity. Responding to the influx of cars capitalizing on “free” spots, the Delancey Street Associates consortium last week installed a chain-link fence across the entrance to the lot. The exit was also left open to allow people to remove their vehicles. But that measure backfired.
Indeed, the fencework was destroyed over the weekend, and the car-park remained half-full. “At this moment, we are engaging a tow company to remove the cars and will reinstall fencing,” community relations director Annel Cabrera tells us.
The Municipal lot at Ludlow and Broome officially closed on April 15. The only measure that will truly keep this lot empty is plywood at both access points. We’ll keep you posted.
