Making ends meet at the corner of Rivington and Allen is certainly a struggle. Just look to Miller’s Near & Far, which closed at the beginning of January for a retooling. The New American-style establishment first opened in May of 2013, and required an update.

Eponymous owner Chris Miller spent the last few months tweaking the concept at 65 Rivington. Tearing it up and starting again. The name remains, but the focus shifts to the burger itself, which was apparently a popular menu item. The dining room also underwent a shift to become homier. Meanwhile, there’s some added flare of neons and bulbs.

It’s worth reiterating that this type of action – sudden renovations by restaurants shortly after debuting – seems to happen quite a bit on the Lower East Side. And it doesn’t discriminate – even Keith McNally decided to close Pulino’s and replace with Cherche Midi.
