The never-ending battle between commissioned street artists and the inevitable slew of taggers continues at the Bowery graffiti wall.

We reported earlier this week that the “All American Temper Tot” mural painted by Ron English had received a few blemishes. Turns out the stunt (“Fuck TV, create art”) was created by MrStarCity, who was trying to make a statement about the toxicity of television. “It’s intended to bring awareness to the time we waste away sitting and watching television rather than contributing something creatively inspiring to the world,” he tells us of the project.

Meanwhile, those tags on the tot torso were a separate incident altogether.

Somehow the installation – assembled in broad daylight – lasted three days before its dismantling. Custodians of the graffiti wall later scrubbed the scrawls and removed the twin televisions from the site.
