Stanton Street Kitchen Mysteriously Closes for ‘Renovations’

Add 178 Stanton Street to the tabulation of cursed spaces on the Lower East Side. The latest occupant, Stanton Street Kitchen, suddenly closed for those all-too-telling “renovations” a few nights ago. The shutter arrives barely seven months after chef Erik Blauberg debuted the concept (which was itself a year after ground-break).
The situation in the Kitchen is not clear, though, as emails go unanswered and the various social media accounts for the restaurant remain mum. So it’s fairly safe to posit that a proper return appears unlikely.
Before Stanton Street Kitchen took the reigns here, this address was the short-lived jazz bar Moldy Fig. Owner Charles Brown (also of Fat Cat fame) had fallen ill and the business suffered.
In the end, 178 Stanton sat empty for over two years before another restaurant moved in.
