Flowers Cafe is on Vacation Until Monday; Luxury Development Looms

Flowers Cafe is currently on vacation, but it’s not permanent. At least not yet. The sign on the front door promises a resumption in service on Monday (August 3).
This quirky cafe is a favorite among locals for being a no-frills recharging station. Its very existence is threatened, though. The property owner – Interboro Properties – filed plans last month to convert the 200-year-old building into six stories of luxury housing. Nevermind the fact that 355 Grand is an historic row-house with rich history, a rarity these days.
According to pending paperwork with the Department of Buildings, the mixed-use replacement building will rise six stories. And it has upper crust written all over it. The proposal includes 4,578 square-feet split between two enormous triplex units; 1,958 square-feet of retail on the ground floor.
Meanwhile, Flowers Cafe is apparently on the lookout for a new location.
