Norfolk Street right off Delancey is ostensibly an off-ramp from the Williamsburg Bridge. Just one of many. Motorists have a penchant for speeding northward.
Yesterday morning, a five-year-old child was struck by a minivan that turned left onto Rivington one block north. Eyewitnesses say that the boy was momentarily pinned beneath the front wheel in the crosswalk. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital at about 11am, but was conscious and showed no visible bleeding.
The driver, 40-year-old Han Uei, told DNAinfo “Too small, I didn’t see [him]. I’m really nervous.” Uei stayed at the scene for questioning but was ultimately released.
The unnamed victim is part of a summer program located nearby. He was reportedly unattended while in the crosswalk.
