Fung Tu is Still Without Gas After 7 Weeks

Seven weeks. This past Friday marks the seven-week point that Fung Tu has been without gas at 22 Orchard Street. In fact, the whole building remains without connection. Owner Wilson Tang is keeping the restaurant open during this period, pulling stunts continue service; there is even a dedicated “No gas menu” which is now the status quo.
Word on the street is that construction work at the forthcoming Scarr’s Pizza may have caused the gas problem. However, as previously reported, its proprietor maintains that the issue pre-dates his involvement at this address.
For his part, Wilson Tang is soft spoken regarding the cause or the situation in general, only that it’s been painfully slow to resolve. “There isn’t much to say,” Tang notes. “It’s in the hands of landlord and contractor.” Once that’s taken care of, Con Edison stops in for the final inspection.
If it took B&H Dairy five months for the re-activation of gas, and Black Crescent is still waiting, then lord knows for Fung Tu. The inspection system is fucked (i.e. back logged) in the wake of the Second Avenue Explosion in March.
