Work Resumes in Basement of Embattled 210 Bowery

Work has resumed at 210 Bowery, where a collapsed cellar wall last month destabilized the entire building, prompting emergency action by the city. Well, at least a slight resumption. It appears the Department of Buildings partially rescinded the full stop-work order that was in place since August 4.
According to the paperwork, contractors are only permitted to complete the removal of debris from the basement level. Here’s the language in the obligatory all-caps:
REMOVE DEBRIS TO EXPOSE SOE (support of excavation) ELEVATOR PIT AREA INSTALL SECTION C&D ELEV PIT P/E TO BE ON SITE AT ALL TIMES
Meanwhile, the vacate orders on the adjoining buildings have since been lifted. The modelFIT gym is up and running again next door at 212 Bowery, and construction is underway inside the ground level Andrew Edlin Gallery.
