DOT Returns Cleaned-Up ‘David Bowery’ Street Sign to the Bowery

It was a two-week turnaround, but the Department of Transportation finally returned the Bowery sign to its rightful place above the intersection of East Houston. Wiped clean and ready to roll.
The city agency had removed the street sign earlier this month to wipe away the David Bowie tribute sprayed onto the western exposure during last month’s blizzard. RIP David Bowie; RIP David Bowery.
There was some prior speculation at the time of its disappearance that a fan may have nabbed the sign. Not the case. DOT further confirmed the removal to us shortly after the story ran.
The Little Italy Street Art Project was behind the stunt.
