The Little Shoe Store on Clinton St.
Another longtime small business is bowing out of the retail landscape of the Lower East Side. And those with teeny feet are out of luck. The Little Shoe Store is the latest to fall victim to escalating the gentrifying streetscape. High rents and loss of foot traffic on the block due to 50 Clinton are to blame.
“[We are] moving to an online only platform this spring,” owner Sydney Pringle noted in a recent Facebook post. There’s no exact date of closure at the moment, but sometime in April is anticipated.
In the meantime, there are deep discounts to be had in the store.
The six-year-old Little Shoe Store is certainly no stranger to struggle. Pringle moved the shop from 58 Orchard Street almost two years ago to escape the escalating rent in the so-called bargain district. Before that, it was a move from the East Village.
