The former Chinese auto mechanic at 300 Broome Street shuttered last October for a much richer clientele. Five months later, the prophecy has come to pass.
Chelsea’s Derek Eller Gallery is finally making inroads at its new Lower East Side location. The nineteen-year-old showroom broke ground at 300 Broome Street within the last couple days. Permits were filed earlier this month with the Department of Buildings for “general construction associated with renovations to existing commercial space.” Cost of converting the mechanic garage is estimated at $190,000.
The Derek Eller Gallery has since closed its Chelsea location ahead of the move, and will remain on the sidelines until inauguration. Probably later this spring.
