Not to be deterred, a gaggle of hopefuls with ties to the Major Food Group will return to Community Board 3 Monday to fight for their ambitious Eldridge Street concept. Now with identity – The Flower Shop.
Last month, the SLA subcommittee knocked down its proposal for a new multi-level nightlife establishment at 107 Eldridge Street (next to Fonatana’s). El jefe William Tisch, the panel argued, lacked the restaurant operational experience for such a large undertaking, and offered little in the way of preparedness. (That meeting lasted well past midnight.)
Tisch, an alumnus of the Major Food Group (Dirty French, Parm, etc.), teamed up with four other partners with ties to hospitality. His kin, Steven Tisch, Andrew Flynn (Brinkley’s), Dave Turner (Major Food Group), and Dylan Hales (Ruby’s Cafe). As if anticipating opposition, the application materials this time around are a bit more robust, including plans, blueprints, and menus for the new endeavor.

The bi-level bar-restaurant will serve “elevated gastropub” food (?) by chef Michael Hamilton alongside a choice of full liquor. According to the public paperwork, two stand-up bars and twenty-eight tables are planned for the main floor and lower level; 4am closings Wednesday through Sunday, 2am for the remainder. There’s a standard menu of snacks (buttermilk fried chicken, grilled cheese), entrees (Fish and Chips, Confit Chicken Leg, Steak Frites), and slimmed-down late-night offerings. Menu is below.
Let’s admit it – the Flower Shop is a massive concept that could adversely affect this quiet Chinatown block. The whole menu is probably a ruse to try for the full monty.
Meanwhile, interior renovations are progressing as though the project is already happening. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
107 Eldridge was previously considered by Jack Abramcyk as Cafe Bambi, but that project never panned out.
