‘Able Fine Art NY’ Takes Over from Louis B. James Gallery on Orchard Street

The script was written years ago, yet still followed to the tee: noted Chelsea gallery defects from its perch only to settle on the Lower East Side. Usually, somewhere along the former “bargain district” of Orchard Street.
The latest bandwagoner is the Able Fine Art Gallery which just planted a flag (nay, canopy) at 143B Orchard. Their arrival comes at the expense of Louis B. James, the showroom that operated here for the last five years. The changing of the guard transpired last month.
Rita’s Leather Fair previously occupied the spot, whose signage remained through Louis B. James as an example of authentrification. They closed in August 2010 after decades in the neighborhood.
