The rumor mill is churning again this morning…
We hear word this week that Seward Park Salvadoran newcomer Cabalito Pupuseria is approaching the end of the road at 13 Essex Street. Apparently closure is happening real soon, allegedly pegged for sometime in the next two weeks.
Proprietor Randy Rodriguez – former barista at Cafe Grumpy next door – founded Cabalito about a year-and-a-half ago. It became part of the cheap eats enclave lining the block between Canal and Hester Streets. Opportunity for expansion arrived earlier this year with the potential of joining the recently opened Bowery Market. But the fundraiser to achieve that goal didn’t quite pan out.
There is no official confirmation of shutter just yet, though. Our request for comment was not immediately returned by ownership.
