There Was a Basement Fire Beneath Sauce on Rivington Street Last Night

Last night at around 8:00pm, just as the heavy rains started to intensify, a fire sparked in the basement of 78 Rivington Street. Beneath Sauce restaurant. Fire engines raced to the scene and blocked off the roadway from Allen to Ludlow Streets. A ladder was even deployed to the rooftop.
Employees at the door informed us that the blaze below was an electrical fire. That intel is further confirmed by the official FDNY alert system on Twitter. There didn’t seem to be any damage to the upstairs dining room, though. We have a line out to the restaurant to confirm its status today, and will update.
