Skater-idol Harold Hunter gets a life-size tribute mural down on Essex Street.
Streetwear brand Homies Wonderland decided to dispense with the three-year-old Haculla artwork on its roll-down gate, and instead go with a portrait of fallen comrade, Harold Hunter. Street artist behind the mural is Trihumph, who spent three days last week painting.
The memorial arrives less than a month after the eleventh anniversary of his death (February 17).
The new piece does away with one of the first entrants in the 100 Gates Project. Haculla painted at 15 Essex Street when skater Billy Rohan first conceived of the neighborhood project, albeit before the Lower East Side Partnership took it over.
