‘Gatsby’ Goes Big with 5-Story Mural on its LES Hotel
That nascent street art endeavor (nay, developers’ tool), The New Allen, tagged its biggest mural to date, yet not even on the namesake street. They strayed two blocks west to Forsyth Street.
Project Organizers commissioned Tony “Rubin” Sjoman to paint the west-facing exposure of the Gatsby Hotel on East Houston. Site chosen for the mural was rather apt given the frequency of ad banners here.
Sjoman spent most of last week, in the rain, spray-painting his token geometric shapes with the help of a mobile boom. He’s a regular of The New Allen, too, having already adorned the gates of the Bitforms gallery at 131 Allen Street three months ago.
We like the “old Allen” better…
