A reader writes in to tell us that there was a “gnarly” accident involving on Clinton Street, near Henry, earlier this evening. Exact details are unclear at the moment, but we’re told that the accident “looked bad.”

UPDATED: The initial tipster thought a cyclist was hit by a FedEx truck driver beside the two-way bike lane, but an eyewitness to the incident, who saw it unfold “in real time,” refutes that claim. Apparently a pedestrian icrossed n front of the stopped truck while the black car sped through the intersection. Boom.

According to the 7th Precinct, the victim sustained injuries to his left arm and left knee and was treated by EMS on scene.
As part of the overall “South Street Greenway,” this stretch of pavement was the thousandth mile of bike lane across the city. Supposed to make the streets safer vis-a-vis Vision Zero. Right.

On April 4, Orchard Street resident Kelley Hurley was killed on First Avenue when a truck driver allegedly made a left turn from the rightmost lane at 9th Street without yielding. The NYPD’s explanation was reportedly that she “slipped off her bike” at the intersection and was struck by the truck.
