Massive Sinkhole Swallows up Madison Street
Thanks to a water main break, a massive sinkhoke just opened up on Madison Street, between Rutgers and Jefferson. The incident purportedly knocked out water to about 150 customers and 10 businesses in the area.
According to NBC, The hell-hole formed earlier this morning after an MTA bus traveled over it, causing the street to buckle.
Emergency DEP, Con Edison, and cleanup crews are currently on scene to determine the source of the leak. The street is closed to traffic.
Coincidentally, this is where NYCHA is planning to eventually construct a 35-story mixed income tower (LaGuardia Houses), as previously reported.
