Chinese Bakeshop, ‘Sun Bakery,’ Sunsets on Essex Street
Standing in the shadows of Essex Crossing, its days serving the Lower East Side seemed numbered from the moment those renderings were released. The Chinese bakeshop at 83 Essex Street, Sun Bakery, appears to be closed down.
There is no announcement anywhere, but a tipster sent along the dispatch. Phone calls to the business are met with a message stating the line is now disconnected.
Sun Bakery might not have been the most beloved Chinese bakery (if Yelp is the barometer), but it always seemed pretty busy. Especially since Sun was located right at the downtown M14 bus stop.
