Brooklyn-based pastry peddlers, I.M. Pastry Studio, signed a lease inside the Essex Street Market back in April. Four months later, the business is operational.

I.M. Pastry Studio, specializing in custom cakes and pastries, began slinging its baked goods last week in what was formerly the seating area for Tra La La juicery.

The eight-year-old bakery spawned as a small home business co-owned and operated by “pastry designer” Tiffany Washington and marketing manager Tamika Young. The two Brooklyn moms eventually moved the studio – named for Tiffany’s grandmother – to Prospect Lefferts Gardens in 2015, thanks to a Kickstarter drive that raised upwards of $33,000. It was short-lived, though, and the company ended its tenancy in October of last year.

Meanwhile, a specialty shop called Dominican Cravings is poised to open in a stall at the south end of the market. The space that previously held Roni Sue’s Chocolates.

This Mott Street ATM Gouges with 17% Fee

Storefront ATMs are nothing new. In fact, their ubiquity was so pronounced that the city banned freestanding ones from sidewalks about a decade ago.
