You might want to head down to Orchard Street today (near Broome), where production has begun on the new Netflix drama, The Irishman. The feature film is directed by Martin Scorsese, and sports a who’s-who from the gangster genre he helped create.

Robert De Niro. Al Pacino. Harvey Keitel. Joe Pesci (who’s basically retired). It’s the first time Pacino and Scorsese are working together, and also the first time all these greats are on-screen together.

The Irishman is a mob movie focused on the disappearance of union boss Jimmy Hoffa. Filming just began and will continue through December. Expect its release on Netflix sometime in 2018.

From Indiewire:

“The Irishman” is based on the 2003 book “I Heard You Paint Houses” by Charles Brandt, which recounts the years Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran spent as a mob hitman. Brandt interviewed Sheeran over a five-year period, during which the mobster confessed to being involved in more than 25 hits for the mob. Sheeran was allegedly involved in the death of legendary mob boss Jimmy Hoffa, who went missing in July 1975 and was never found.
