Charles Bradley Memorial Mural Painted on Allen Street
Late soul singer Charles Bradley is mourned on the Lower East Side with a new mural. Street artist Joe Miller painted the memorial on Allen Street a couple weeks ago, barely a month after the musician passed away from stomach cancer at 68.
Miller’s piece is the latest entrant in The New Allen, that “art foundation” created last year by Baby Brasa proprietor (and newcomer) Milan Kelez.
Bradley achieved musical success with Brooklyn’s Daptone revivalist record label, releasing a trio of full-length albums that hit home. His stylings were steeped in the legacy of Otis Redding and the classic Stax sound.
