Macondo Looks Donezo on East Houston Street
Macondo on East Houston appears to be down for the count. The restaurant closed for business yesterday – rather suddenly without notice – and the joint is already dismantled.
Phone calls forward to the West Village outpost on Bank Street, which is still serving. Employees there noted that the Lower East Side hiatus is only temporary.
But the view on the ground seems to suggest otherwise.
Owner Hector Sanz opened Macondo in the summer of 2008. It became popular off the bat, as a more laid back option than its sister, Rayuela (which closed in September 2014).
