Man Slashed Across the Face in Sara D. Roosevelt Park in ‘Random’ Attack
The crime emanating from Sara D. Roosevelt Park these days appears to be worsening.
Saturday afternoon at around 1:15pm, a 34-year-old man was slashed across the face near the Parks Department storehouse on Stanton Street. The victim allegedly did not know his attacker, who fled southbound on Chrystie thereafter.
The authorities are reportedly calling it a “random” attack, and describe the suspect as a black man standing 5-foot-8, with mustache and goatee.
This incident follows mere days after a mugging in the park just a few blocks south near Delancey. And lest we forget the K2 dispute two months ago that resulted in a fatal stabbing.
Drug use (specifically K2) and related violence amongst the encamped homeless pose an enormous problem in the park. And have for years, despite the trend toward luxury on its periphery. After all, the Public Hotel is directly across the street.
