The Lower East Side Gains Another Chain with new ‘Checkers’ Location

Checkers, the national fast food chain is cozying up with the Lower East Side. A new franchise location, its first in the area, is underway at the base of the Smith Houses.
Boogie reader Marsha Jackson snapped a photo of 23 St. James Place, the former home of the Multi Tastes Diner. That establishment shuttered about two weeks ago.
Teaser signage for Checkers appeared in the windows shortly thereafter.
As reported earlier this year, formula retail is up 19% on the Lower East Side (up 8 stores for the neighborhood totaling 51). This according to the “State of the Chains 2018” report.
