On Orchard Street, ‘There’ is No More; Named Tzarevna Instead
With a name like There, it’s no wonder ownership decided to change the identity of their Orchard Street wine bar. There is henceforth known as Tzarevna.
Ricky Dolinsky, former chef de cuisine of long-gone Fatta Cuckoo on Clinton Street (among others), is behind the newcomer concept, which serves tapas-style “new Russian cuisine.” Menu includes items like pelmeni (dumplings), shashlyk (skewered meats), and stroganov (meat stew), paired with “carefully chosen Georgian and European wines.”
The space at 154 Orchard Street is itself notorious, thanks to its controversial back deck and a string of food failures over the last decade. Namely, with chef Danny Bowien and his popular Mission Chinese Food, which lasted here for just a over a year. (It eventually relocated to East Broadway in 2014.)
