‘The Ainsworth’ Eyes Former DBGB Space on the Bowery

July 2017

DBGB departed the Bowery two years ago. Since then, the commercial space, located in the Avalon complex that replaced McGurk’s Suicide Hall, has been awaiting a suitor. One is (potentially) found.

Prolific pub chain, The Ainsworth, is scoping out the premises for its second downtown location. It already operates a presence at the old Village Pour House on Third Avenue.

Principal Matt Shendell will appear before Community Board 3 later this month to fight for a full liquor license.

As for DBGB, Daniel Boulud closed shop in 2017 after eight years at 299 Bowery. Itself a harbinger of Bowery gentrification, the establishment blamed a “changing neighborhood” (it helped foster) for its misfortune.
