Lower East Side Gets COVID-19 Testing Center at Gouverneur on Madison Street
Good news for the Lower East Side. Starting today, locals can get tested for the novel coronavirus.
According to an update yesterday from U.S. Representative Carolyn Maloney, New York City Health and Hospitals is opening a COVID-19 assessment and testing center outside Gouverneur Hospital on Madison Street. Physicians will assess patients and determine whether further testing is necessary.

NYC Health + Hospitals is opening an COVID-19 assessment and testing center outside of Gouverneur (227 Madison Street) this Wednesday, April 1. The center will be open Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. Physicians will assess patients after they are evaluated for symptoms and risk factors. Patients with mild or without symptoms will be assessed but generally not tested. Patients determined to be high risk and likely needing imminent hospitalization will be tested. Any individual requiring hospitalization will be immediately transferred to the nearest facility.
As of yesterday, the City has confirmed 43,139 cases with 914 deaths.
