Popeyes Chicken Returns to Delancey Street After 6-Year Hiatus
It was more than six years ago that the long-running Popeyes franchise on Delancey Street went out of business. Now, a return is underway for the fast-food chicken restaurant. And directly across the street, at that.
Evidence of its arrival, and opening, is mounting at 101 Delancey. Branded red awning is in place, and “Louisiana Kitchen” slogan lettering visible from outside the establishment.
This is the second Popeyes location on the Lower East Side, with the other being at the corner of Chrystie and Canal Streets near the Manhattan Bridge.
And its presence here is the second significant retail shakeup at 101 Delancey this year. You’ll recall that the Claw Money boutique space – at the corner of Ludlow Street – became an HSBC Bank branch back in March. Popeyes occupies the stores that previously housed OTB and Happiness Deli.
