SLA Suspends Rochelle’s on Chrystie Street for COVID Violations
Another Lower East Side bar was caught flouting state COVID-19 related regulations earlier this month.
The state’s multi-agency task force busted Rochelle’s (aka Leave Rochelle out of It) after an inspection on October 9, Governor Cuomo’s office announced late Friday. Investigators observed seven patrons standing and mingling inside 19 Stanton Street without face masks. The security guard at the door and the bar manager were also observed without facial coverings. In addition, Rochelle’s had been operating long past the midnight curfew for indoor service, and without evidence of substantial food service — in direct violation of guidelines created to prevent social situations that have led to COVID-19 spikes in other states.
Five days later, the State Liquor Authority suspended the bar’s liquor license.
Leave Rochelle Out of It followed in the footsteps of the short-lived Cocktail Bodega in November 2013.
