Cuban Restaurant ‘Mi Salsa Kitchen’ Opening in Mezetto Space

Mezetto closed last March during the pandemic lockdown, never to recover. Now, another suitor is rolling the proverbial dice at 161 East Houston Street.

The Community Board 3 notice for liquor license application is posted to the front door of the corner establishment (at Allen Street). Mi Salsa Kitchen is the newcomer, a restaurant serving up “authentic Cuban cuisine.” It’ll have six tables, twelve seats, and a bar. Proposed hours of operation are 11:00am to 2:00am daily.

Mezetto opened at 161 East Houston in October 2012, having replaced ten-plus-year veteran Oliva. Ownership admitted that the closure last spring was temporary and “only for two weeks.” Seven months later, though, real estate listings for the space told the true story.
