Sammy’s Roumanian Confirms Closure, but Teases Possible Return

July 2017
Kvetch away.
What began in the rumor mill this past week was confirmed as truth – Sammy’s Roumanian Steakhouse is permanently closed. However, ownership of the forty-seven-year-old restaurant is leaving the door open for a possible comeback.
Responding after days of silence, the schmaltzy kosher-style restaurant took to Instagram to post its farewell.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the rumors are true and we have had to shut the doors to the infamous basement,” the post reads. “It’s truly tragic but we are extremely humbled by all your support. To survive 47 years is an accomplishment we are proud of.”
But the announcement ends with a dollop of hope. The Sammy’s Roumanian team promises a comeback, teasing a return to horas and schmaltz post-pandemic. Whenever that is.
“We may be closed now,” it reads. “But when all this is over and we feel safe enough to hold hands during the hora, we will be back stronger, louder, and tastier than before.”
