Golden Diner survived the pandemic only to be consumed by fire.
Indeed, the Chinatown newcomer (123 Madison Street) sustained a significant fire on-premise and is now raising money for survival. The fire sparked due to a “machinery explosion” after-hours in the kitchen, and the resulting flames “decimated a huge chunk of our beloved restaurant and blackened the rest,” according to owner Sam Yoo.
The Madison Street restaurant will likely remain closed for at least the next two weeks to clean up and rebuild.
To that end, Yoo launched a crowdfunding campaign this week – a Fire Fund – to help cover repairs staff wages.
As of this morning, the fund has more than $19,000 in donations.
