Niece Charged in Murder of 97-Year-Old Woman in Baruch Houses
The niece of a 97-year-old woman found dead at the Baruch Houses Friday morning has been charged with murder.
The nonagenarian, Antonia Cardona, was found unresponsive inside her apartment at the public housing complex, with body injuries and a cut on her wrist.
Her 50-year-old niece and caretaker, Janice Cruz, who reportedly has a history of mental health issues, confessed the killing to her son after the incident. He then called the cops, who took the suspect into custody, and on to Bellevue for psychological evaluation.
She was charged with murder one day later.
