Woman Caught in Crossfire Grazed by Bullet on Eldridge Street
A stray bullet grazed a woman standing outside a public housing development on Stanton Street Monday evening.
The 41-year-old victim was reportedly struck in the hip by the errant round. Literally caught in the crossfire; she was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
Motive is unclear, as is whether the victim knew the shooter, but investigators believe the gunman may have been targeting a rival who was partying at a barbecue near the Lower East Side Infill at 213 Eldridge (near Stanton), according to the 5th Precinct.
Police describe the shooter as an African American man wearing a yellow sweatshirt.
Meanwhile, between ongoing construction nearby on Rivington Street and that subway ventilation project on Forsyth, the area has even an uptick in violence. Police sources tell us that it’s been on the proverbial radar, but will now need to increase patrols.
